Did a Rioja wine tasting tour during my honeymoon and have been a fan of its wines ever since

To your point they are generally very good for the price. We also enjoy picking up an inexpensive crianza and mixing it with Sprite in the summer for our version of Tinto de Verano. Less sweet and IMO more refreshing than sangria.

That said, my go to wine is still a California Cabernet Sauvignon.
