another driving situation for your review...

this morning I am driving with my wife in the car. We are at a light waiting, and I am in the right hand lane because I am turning right at the next light, which is only a few hundred feet away. So we start up, and the guy in the left hand lane puts on his turn signal and begins to merge, while just a few feet in front of me. I do not slow down initially. I did after a few seconds to avoid an accident (assuming the guy would have continued merging in spite of me being there). There was no one behind me, so the guy could have waited a few seconds and merged behind me.

I say a guy does not have the right to be in my lane just because he put his turn signal on. He should wait until there is an opening to merge. My wife thinks I should have slowed to let him in. Thoughts?
