State Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson is expected to pick state Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks from Grand Rapids as her running mate, Craig Mauger of the Detroit News reports, citing four unnamed sources.
Benson, Michigan's secretary of state, has scheduled a press conference at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Grand Rapids.
If elected, it would be the first time Michigan has had a woman as governor and lieutenant governor.
Republican candidate for governor John James has picked state Rep. Jay DeBoyer of St. Clair County as his running mate.
The Detroit News previously reported that Benson was considering former state Sen. Jim Ananich of Flint and current Sen. Sarah Anthony of Lansing as other potential lieutenant governor candidates. State Sen. Mallory McMorrow of Royal Oak was also mentioned.
