Was visiting a friend at the Univ of Chicago and got off the train at the wrong stop coming back after spending the day downtown. I walked for about 5 minutes and ran into a youngish black couple walking the other way. Their eyes got sort of big and they asked me where I was going. The way I remember it I could see a large housing project about a mile away, sun going down. They were very clear that I should turn around and get back on the train. I had been told by my friend that during orientation they make it very, very clear that the surrounding area was not a place to fuck with. I think they were my guardian angels.
