SEA takes for you

I lived in Singapore for three years and puttered all around ASEAN.

Thailand's islands are gorgeous and/but the water is bathtub flat. Beautiful for snorkeling not surfing.

If you want waves that's Indonesia, Bali west coast. June through September swell. Uluwatu, Bingin, Padang Padang.

If Bali is too discovered/touristy, Lombok is one ferry over...it's like Bali before Bali was Bali.

Siargao in the Philippines is surfable September through November. Small island with one road.

Bar owner next door is an incomparable asset here and if you feel comfortable I would definitely travel with him.

Remote/backpack/camp/hike: Nusa Penida, Gili Islands, central Vietnam, even Luang Prabang in Laos.
