Prevalence of CTE in the general population looks to be <1%

"Several studies have estimated the prevalence of CTE at death in community populations. In 2018 the Framingham Heart Study reported that one of all 164 brain donors (0.6%) had CTE. A study of the first 532 community dwelling brain donor members of the Kaiser Permanente health maintenance organisation identified three donors (0.6%) with CTE. A study of
all community members born on the left bank of the Danube between May 1925 and June 1926 found that none of the 310 donors (0%) who underwent autopsy between 2000 and 2016 had CTE.
Other studies have estimated the prevalence of CTE at death in specialised cohorts. One study of donors from the Mayo Clinic Neurodegenerative Disease Brain Bank found that 21 (32%) of the 66 men with documented exposure to repetitive head impacts from contact sports had CTE, compared with none of the 198 age matched donors without such exposure documented."
