Any Tards work as independent contractors?

I've got a company interested in me and I guess I'm mutually interested back enough that I keep taking interviews. I'd be gung ho except they are in the private equity space and do dedicated 1yr contracts as 1099. I'd obviously need more financial upside to offset the risk.

Assuming that works out, I'm looking for thoughts from those working as consultants and contractors. How you structured for taxes, what kind of premium you calculated you needed to offset benefits costs.
