As of this a.m, the Tigers rank:
3rd in the AL in OPS (5th in runs, 3rd in slugging, 3rd in HR, 5th in OBP)
4th in the AL in WHIP (3rd in ERA)
2nd in the AL in fielding pct.
They are arguably the most well rounded team in the league. Fielding probably matters less. Tampa is ahead of the Tigers in both OPS and WHIP but 13th in fielding. Houston is ahead in OPS and fielding but 12th in WHIP. Seattle and NY are ahead in WHIP but Seattle is 13th in OPS and NY is 5th in OPS; both are middle of the pack in fielding.
Tampa and NY are the only teams that look better in these metrics overall, but interestingly Tampa only has a +37 run differential. NY is +87 and Detroit is +71. The puzzling team is Boston at +72 They are doing it with mirrors: 5th in WHIP and 9th in OPS.
