The Victors

It is not what I often expect from Ridley Scott films. Specifically over the top battle scenes and massive explosions whether historically accurate, or not (most often not).

The film moves at a purposely slow pace. You have time to experience the "world" in which the film is set. You see it, you feel it, you are saturated in it, all before the real storytelling starts.

I love the Cormac McCarthy novel The Road. I wanted to like the film, but I mostly don't . Dog Star the film makes similar points, in a much more interesting way. The beautiful cinematography makes the post-apocalyptic horror all the more real without over the top (and CGI) special effects.

I loved the pace, the performnces, and the nuances that forced you to learn and understand the various characters without insipid and too often used omnipotent narration. No T & A, minimal explosions, and a slow pace will turn off many folks. Not me, I loved it.
