All due respect to the Beatles, Velvets, Pavement, and other greats

But I think “Physical Graffiti is the single greatest ALBUM in the history of Anglo-American rock n roll.

And Led Zep has as strong a claim as any to being the “best band ever.” The song-writing of Lennon & McCartney is sublime, and I have a ton of respect for the Beatles’ musicianship/chops—even/especially the rhythm section. But they lost something when they ceased playing live and became a studio project. Led Zep was a shit-hot live fourpiece from beginning to end. (Although Plant’s voice was often shot and Page’s addictions got the better of his playing sometimes.)
*And* their studio work is magical—the production/mic-ing of Bonzo especially.

In conclusion, a band is only as good as its drummer, and Bonzo was the Beatles of drummers.
