Not exactly responding to your point, but… Luis Tiant, 229 wins, 3.30 ERA, 114 ERA+, 66.1 bWAR, not in HOF. Clearly better than Morris or Hunter (and a lot of other pitchers), especially if you put any stock in WAR.*
