I honestly don't think we're at nearly this level of legal war in CFB (at least over eligibility) if like, Oklahoma or Illinois or Utah or virtually anybody *but* LSU was the program (and governor) at the centerpiece of it all. There'd be lawsuits, sure, but not like THIS.

I already had this thought and then Matt Brown articulated it. Basically, the rest of college football has decided that they don't like Kiffin (his personality flaws [dishonest lothario] are different from Jim's [autistic football obsessive]) and thus they are all worked up about the NFL-to-college thing. The fact that it is LSU - a renegade program on numerous levels and one that has the backing from their Bobby Boucher-esque governor - makes matters worse.
Anyway, I don't think that colleges should be able to take players once they go down the NFL path but the lynch mob mentality reminds me of Stalionskampf.
