Even more unbelievably, CU was 9-1-1 heading to the Orange, won in controversial fashion to finish 10-1-1 and claim a national title. They should have been 8-2-1.
There was a lot of parity that year. Michigan lost at ND in the final minute and was still #1 in the country, until they lost on the Desmond trip play. There was still a 4 way tie for the B10 title. Michigan lost on an ND miracle finish, Desmond trip and by 3 points to Iowa iirc? Michigan probably should have won the national title. I think they finished the season 6th or 7th with 3 losses.
