The Victors

A colleague of mine opened his letter, read the first couple sentences and saw the "regret to inform you" or whatever language is used in a fail letter. He dropped the envelope and retreated to his room. His family was in the other room waiting for a reaction, and left him alone at the obvious door slam.

A family member picked up the envelope and discovered that there were two letters stuffed into one envelope. The top letter was addressed to someone else. Below that was his letter, saying he passed.

I guess WMU players' experience was comparable to that. WMU fans (and M-haters) experienced nothing like it, for all their bellyaching.

One more bar exam results reveal story: a then-law clerk at my firm checked his results online at his desk, matching his exam number against the list of passing exam numbers published online. He immediately emailed a handful of partners and a bunch of other lawyers (he got the clerk gig because he knew people.) Long reply-all chain of congrats, we knew you'd ace it, etc. etc.

Twenty mins later he replied all to say he'd looked up the wrong number. And after checking the correct number, he did not pass. He left the firm a few weeks later.
