I posted this a few times since the game ended and nobody has really responded, because I don't think anyone REALLY knows how it works. The guys on mgopodcast didn't seem to know either.

When you watch the play that started with 9 seconds on the clock, the clock ticks to 8 about the moment it hits Bryce's hands, whos is in shotgun. I can buy that it probably takes around .5 seconds for the ball to reach his hands, but it sure as fuck doesn't take 1.0 seconds.

If the play before that play was just a regular play, where the playclock was ticking down naturally, I can buy the fact that the 9 seconds was actually about 8.5 and not a full 9.0. So then I could buy that when the clock operator started the clock at the next snap, it would hit 8 on the TV's game clock by the time Bryce touched the ball.

But that's not what happened. The official instructed the clock official or whoever to put 9 seconds on the clock. So that to me means a full 9.0 seconds. That being said, the clock on the TV broadcast should not have ticked the clock from 9 to 8 from the snap to Bryce's hands.

Brian/funky said on the mgopodcast that he actually took the time to go frame by frame on that entire play. He basically said that it took about half as many frames for the clock to tick from 9 to 8 as it did every second after 8. So he's basically saying what I've posted several times, the time from 9 to 8 was definitely less than a second. And I wonder if that "half second" is the difference between the TV broadcast's time and the official's time.

Also, how often does the clock operator err on fucking the home team like that? Feels like the clock clown waits an extra beat before starting the clock in that type of situation. But nope, an entire second is gone before our QB even catches the ball.
