The rule itself is clear.
The amount of time on the clock inside the stadium - one second - is known.
The amount of time the referees said needed to be put back on the clock after review - one second - is unambiguous.
The video the replay officials used to put one second back on the clock is public.
The rule itself is clear. The stadium clock is the game clock. The game clock must be accessible to the media.
The issue is that people saw Western play really hard, they saw us suck really bad, and we ended up winning. People felt a feel: MAD. Unfair! Then Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge told them they'd been duped - a narrative that maps precisely onto that notion of unfairness. And thus it is done.
I DO get it. I'm not unsympathetic, either. If a Western fan told me in a bar "what those referees did that day hurt my feelings to my core and I will never, ever forget it," I'd not correct him; I'd tell him "respect, brother, I'm sorry that happened." Make no mistake - to the extent there is "earned" versus "unearned" in sports, it was a victory for us that was unearned.
But I lose no sleep. Not that I'm qualified to give any of you guys advice, I offer this: stop caring. You cannot help a person reason themselves out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.
