That's misleading. Gwynn suffered injuries to his index finger, thumb, wrist & achilles in the 1988-90 seasons, and mostly played through them. He was also injured in subsequent seasons, but went on the DL. He also notably changed his mechanics in 1992 after meeting w/Ted Williams....

... to become more of a pull hitter and hit for more power. If you go back to his age 24-27 seasons, which were his most productive, then you see a gradual decline in production into his 30s, as one would expect.
