What are they hoping to achieve with this?

So far, they have a certain level of sympathy for being attacked by what I'm sure the world sees as a bumbling US. So they're surely not seeing the kind of blowback that would come from closing the Strait of Hormuz without provocation.

But Bab-el-Mandeb? That seems more like a straight up attempt to fuck the world's oil supply up in a region that in no way touches Iran. It's just screwing things up to upset everyone.
