If the owners all independently decided they didn’t want to trade for Larkin, I don’t think anybody could do anything.

If one group of owners tried to force everyone else not to trade for Larkin with some sort of penalty if they did (to reduce players’ bargaining power), that would be a problem. However, the NHLPA is a pathetic eunuch of a union and probably wouldn’t do jack shit either way.
