How much time was on the clock before the first Hail Mary? 9.0. Not 8.x, not 9.x ... 9.0. We know this because the official instructed the clock operator to reset the clock to 9 seconds (not to 8.5).

How much time did the last play take? 8.4-8.6 seconds is what I've seen. That comes from people using digital video to time the length of the play from snap to touch.

So that is the primary "evidence" that the clock should have had time left for one more play.

Can we confirm that? Yes. There are two pieces of evidence. One is fan videos shot live in the stadium that show 0:01 on the (official) scoreboard clock when the ball is touched. The second is that the Big Ten built this Hawkeye System to answer this exact question, and that Hawkeye System showed there was time left. That is why it was overturned. So we have the primary evidence (the actual timing of the play) and two pieces of supporting evidence.

That would imply that the TV clock was wrong. Is there any evidence of that? Yes. There is. There are numerous screen captures from that game and other games that show the TV clock and scoreboard clock (at various sites) on screen at the same time, and out of sync.

It's pretty much a bullet proof argument if you approach it purely logically
