First spouse (mini) rant on the new board…

Posted on August 13, 2026 at 01:21:17 PM by Craig

My wife and I are in our early 60s. We definitely both have a little age-normal hearing loss.

My wife has a very stream-of-consciousness conversational style sometimes. It’s fine, it’s kind of endearing. Sometimes I don’t figure out what she’s actually talking about until the fifth or sixth sentence in. Also, sometimes she’s actually talking to me; sometimes more to herself, but it sounds about the same in either case.

Because of both of these factors, I really need her to somehow ask for my attention before just starting in with something she’s going to hold me responsible for hearing. And I’ve asked her to do this multiple times, but she just won’t do it. She just starts talking—if I’m working on something else (maybe actual work), if I’m reading something, if I’m in the adjacent room—and then gets frustrated if I have to ask her to repeat something.
