72 "FBS" teams
72 "FCS" teams
Each team is ranked 1 through 9 in their conference.
Each team plays the other 8 teams in their conference, plus four teams from other conferences, with a focus on strong teams playing each other.
At the end of the season, top two teams in each conference go to a 16 team playoff. Bottom team in each conference is relegated. Top team in each conference of the lower division is promoted.
