One thing I’m becoming increasingly impatient with is the low ratio of actual quality content to running time in so many podcasts (including, but not limited to, sports analysis).
The MGo guys are really bad about this. I’m fine with some banter and silliness, but sometimes they manage to turn 15 minutes of analysis into a two-hour podcast.
It’s not just the off-topic stuff, or even mostly that. It’s the minutes wasted turning 1 minute of content into a 10 minute discussion.
There’s a psychologist whose stuff I listen to sometimes, and one thing I appreciate is that her episodes are usually 10-15 minutes. They’re solo shows, which I think is better for staying on task.
Or, more produced interview shows like Hidden Brain. I guess the challenge with sports analysis is that it’s time sensitive, so they want to do episodes with very little post-production.
