Virginia had a pretty goid team coming into the season and I thought going into the game that UVa could win it. It certainly didn't look good at halftime and I recall some boo birds coming out as the team left the field.

The game winning touchdown happened in front of where we seated, but we couldn't get a good view of where Hayes' feet landed. It seemed to take forever before the referee signaled the TD. Instant pandemonium in the stands.

It turns out the hotel we were staying at contained a large number of Cavalier fans and alums. Once we got back from the game, we turned ESPN on in my parents' room to get the game report and highlights (the pre cell phone days, you know). When they showed that final catch, you could hear all the groaning thru the walls from the UVa faithful. I guess they had the same idea we did.
