I don't know how long they'll keep it, but the island does lie astride the sea routes going to and from the Suez Canal. No doubt coordinated by the Iranians. Not hard to imagine what they could do to damage commercial shipping given current drone technology.

I wonder if this is a mission for the U.S. Marines and Navy. I have to imagine there's an Amphibious Readiness Group with 5,000 marines tooling around the Arabian Sea now. CENTCOM may have to redirect them to storm and retake that island. Stay tuned.
