I was out in the corner of my parents' property checking on my weed plants for the last time, they were scraggly outdoor in N. MI plants but they had some decent buds going. I went back inside and fired up the old 56k modem and made a pot of coffee and saw on Drudge Report "plane hits Twin Towers". I thought oh like a cessna or something.

Then turned on CNN and there was a massive hole in the building and it was obvious that was no cessna. I was watching when the 2nd plane hit live. Went to college 3 days later.

Generation Kill captures the zeitgeist of that time pretty well imo.
