Memory from that 9/11 afternoon. Football practice was cancelled. Had to walk past Houseman Field to go home anyway. We saw Little John on the field alone, sitting on his helmet, looking down. I called out to him twice, “HEY, JOHN, NO PRACTICE MAN.” He was facing away from us, but didn’t respond.*

I watched the smoke from the Pentagon from the roof of my apt. building north of Dupont Circle in DC. Then went down to Connecticut Ave and watched 1000s of office workers heading home on foot in the sunshine. It was silent.*
