The Victors

I decided I need to develop something more social and outgoing. I am a social person, but for various reasons (combination of moving a lot, people my age being busy with children, many others not allowed to befriend outside of work due to rank/supervision, etc), kind of gotten to a point where I don't have any local friends. We do have a couple of couple friends (okay, one couple, of whom we don't especially like the guy), and my wife has some former work friends (former as to work, the friends are current) that occasionally leads to group activities, but more often is a "her and the girls" situation (which is fine; I don't especially want to do a monthly craft night).

My wife and I do stuff, but she's also gotten to be more of a homebody, and anyway I need a life outside of my wife. I realized I'm turning into Guy Who Does Errands/Putters Around the House to stay busy/active, which is also a problem in that I'm not very handy, so in addition to not being social, sooner or later I'm going to actively harm something I'm working on.

Anyway. Ideas for finding social activity in my mid-40's?

The other issue, which is both a reason to do something and a potential limitation, is I'm finding I'm not really super into anything anymore. Not that I'm depressed or joyless, just that any hobby I had or thing I liked before, I'm just...less into now. Like I like Michigan football but I don't do much besides watch games. I don't care as much about reading about it or discussing it. same with fandom stuff. I liked LotR and stuff like that, and while I was never one to, say, dress up at Cons (or even go to them), I'd be interested in discussions about that stuff. But now it's just, yeah, I'll read the stuff I like and then it's done and whatever.

So trying to force myself to get into something again, but at the same time recognizing I'm not going to be, I dunno, a Warhammer 40k obsessive or become a Guy Who Is Way Too Into Fantasy Football.

I could become a barfly, I suppose, but it probably needs to be a little more directed and a little less explicitly alcoholic than that.
