Financial world thoughts...

Posted on August 13, 2026 at 06:39:51 AM by Alias

Part of my job is ensure AI implementation is safe for the financial entities I oversee. Vague job description I know.

Lack of federal guidance is frustrating. It's basically the wild wild west because we are afraid to lose to China or too stupid to implement common sense rules.

The good news is they are mostly just dipping a toe in(in my highly regulated field at least). I think the cost is a concern but also the reliability/accuracy. It's mostly to make things more efficient right now--not replacing human workers because you still need human eyes to verify accuracy. I also see glorified macros being called AI which I find funny.

I think businesses are concerned we will switch things up in 2-3 years and come after them when they hand the keys to AI for key business functions....which we will. We will have some amazing lawsuits when AI does something stupid because C-suite fast tracked it. There are already some hilarious stories about it deleting databases and apologizing.

At it's core, AI is human code. Humans are stupid. Given appropriate guardrails and it will change our lives. Leave it as the wild wild west and we are asking for a global event that cripples everything and may be difficult to recover from.
