This might be a little coping with the fact that Barca are going to struggle to sign one before the season starts but they looked great in a striker-less system on Sunday. PSG have won their first two European cups using a striker-less system. Spain have won the last two major international tournaments when their striker has been the weakest member of the starting XI. Arsenal just won the league while getting little from their expensive traditional striker and they look better when they play Kai Havertz, a false nine, in that role. It's useful to have one for specific tactical situations but is that specific position a bit of an appendix now, an organ that might have had importance in an earlier era but doesn't anymore?
