I'm always late to these things

Happened upon the original VB in fall 1996. Always considered myself a rabid Michigan fan but did not appreciate at all the level of interest that other people had, i.e. following recruiting, re-watching game tapes and analyzing formations, etc., encyclopaedic memory of specific plays in Michigan history yadayada. It was like thinking you really like Kubrick films and then you find the internet and you realize whoa, there's some damn superfans out there who have a lot of time on their hands. But I like being around people who know more than me and talk about things I'm interested in. So I mostly lurk but value my time spent here greatly. And have never read one soccer thread. Who knew so many people liked soccer?

It's strange to think that there was a long period of time where we mostly discussed Michigan sports and other things were marked as off-topic. And politics was RARELY if ever brought up.

My Michigan credentials: parents both alums, older brother is an alum. I was in the marching band for all 5 years of my college career (1987-1991) so saw some memorable football ups and downs in that time frame. Also played in the basketball band and went to the '89 championship (and regionals).

Edit: should add that I met my wife in the band. That's the best place to find a wife if you want someone who likes to watch Michigan football with you.

It's also strange to think about how long I/we've been a part of this community. In 1996 I was 26 years old(!) and newly married. Now I'm ....much older and not any wiser, have three kids, and have seen two football national championships (only one being a MNC - remember that term?), the last one in person. Anyway, thanks to Nikos for saving the board and go blue!
