If you are all high on, say, UNLV or Minnesota, and they go 6-5, oh well…it was just a dark horse pick.
If you say this is finally the year OSU struggles, and they don’t…whatever. No one really seems to care.
But if you predict a great season for Texas, or Michigan, or Bama (especially if they fell off a bit in recent seasons)? Well. First off, that’s not cool or sassy. And second, you’ll get blasted for it if it doesn’t work out. It’s weird.
If it’s the schedule thing, then why not just say “Michigan is an interesting case. I think they’ll be better than last year, but their schedule is so tough, there record may not be any better (or could even be worse).”
