I might be a horrible person

As you may remember, we own a hunting house in North Dakota that we use for pheasant hunting a couple weeks a year. Usually it is six guys, two trucks, a dog trailer, several cases of Coors Light, and numerous bottles of bourbon along with some vodka. There are guns, shooting, group dinners, cribbage, college football, good exercise, great scenery, long deep conversations, funny short conversations, lots of inside jokes, everything that goes along with a typical guys trip.

One of our six just bailed out. One of the other guys in the group wants to ask another guy to take his spot. The prospective hunter has been on the trip a couple times before, and used to be a riot. Unfortunately he has gone through some really hard times in the last year or two, mostly self-inflicted and recently went through treatment and is now in recovery.

I know that alcohol really shouldn't be this important to me, but it is an integral aprt of the experience for me. The cold beer at the end of a hunt, the canned cocktail (Slow n Low) at the end of the day as the sun is going down, the manhattan while we make dinner, the bourbon neat sipped while playing a few games of crib after dinner, I can't imagine it not being a part of the experience.

I know I'm an asshole but I really hope he says no, he can't go. I can't tell anyone else about this because I have to appear supportive.
