I am constantly amazed how frequently, while I'm on a hiking trip, I'm in the middle of a town - not just the roads between towns - where there is no cell service. I get that there's no service in the mountains, or in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming or something, but these are legitimate towns in TN, NC, NH, VT, etc., with chain restaurants, big grocery stores, etc. Most of us take it for granted these days, but it's a real thing.

That being said, I think that within 5 years tops, satellite communications will be such that you can have service everywhere at affordable prices.
