As I have said in the past, I have similar, but nowhere near as severe, issues as you do. (Herniated disc and deformed hip joint.) I look perfectly normal other than my hobbling gait, which is often times painful. I do not use a cane. I wish that I could, but I don't feel comfortable with one. I always appreciate when there is a bench to sit on or a wall or fence to lean on for a short rest every so often when I am out for a walk. I have a forty-something neighbor who has an injured back from a car accident. He has a handicap licence plate. He always gets shit from people in parking lots because he gets out of his car and starts off walking "normally." I will never question anyone with a special plate or who uses a scooter.
