I know and understand the argument for larger trucks, but as you say, it really doesn’t make any sense for regular cars. AND, I think the overriding argument is that everyone is safer in parking lots when ppl do the predictable thing, so that other drivers know what they are doing.

We went to parking enforcement on campus a couple years ago that scans license plates, rather than a physical permit. Because Kansas does not have front license plates, this means that everyone needs to pull in front first so that their license plate is visible to the scanner. You would not believe the bitching—they eventually had to sell special front license plates plates to people that insisted on backing in.
