Sure, it's true that a guy can't make nobodies into title contenders just with some grit and spit and running stairs. But also, it turns out that the leadership, teaching, training, and utilization all kind of matter a lot. Sometimes it's just dumb luck/one of those things where a guy needs a fresh start/different situation, but once it happens over and over again, or moreoever when the entire results are mid, and then some new guy comes in and they're suddenly much better, kind of blows up the "what can the guy do?" idea. You can coax a good bit more out of guys if you know what you're doing.

And Sherrod Moore really, REALLY didn't know what he was doing.

  - No it's maddening that he was even hired. But somehow the narrative was "we needed an adult after Jim and Moore" because Warde Manuel is incompetent.         This is correct. Whitt was the best choice given very limited options. The hope was (still is) that Whitt could provide some stability, be a bridge to the next coach, keep the Michigan ethos (dominant OL/DL and run game) intact.         He did groom a successor. Turned out that aside from being a phenomenal OL coach, Moore was also an instagram junkie/compulsive masturbator. Jim is football smart, not people smart.         I don’t think this is accurate. Harbaugh viewed/endorsed Moore as his successor. Moore’s work as OL coach and OC was instrumental in the 40-3 run.
