What should have happened when Colorado, A&M, Mizzou, and Nebraska left the Big XII is that Texas and OU should have joined the Pac-12 and they would have ended up with 14 teams in seven pairs that made sense. The Big XII, which was an unholy amalgam to begin with, could have then died or turned into a rump conference. Instead, Texas refused to move because they couldn't bring LHN with them, the Big XII survived, and then the Pac-12 ended up dying because of their total mismanagement of their media rights. Maybe Larry Scott would have fucked it up anyway but adding Texas and Oklahoma would have put them in a great position.
