I can certainly understand how fucking annoying it must be to be at Disney and surrounded by carts making an already tense and crowded situation worse and being pissed at the *general* problem of shitty people lying and cheating the system for every possible advantage.

It's a violation of the social contract, it's like the broken window theory of crime where people see others getting away with shit and it makes them more likely to do the same.

But I still think suede-like black and white rhetoric does little to deter people who are going to cheat the system. People who do that are already choosing to ignore the social backlash and judgement.

And it does at least something to stop legitimately disabled people from taking the accommodations they deserve because they don't want that judgement and regular interactions with the truth-in-disability police dogooders who take that overly simplistic rhetoric into action.

I'm a walking, stumbling example. I have absolutely thought specifically about this board when I've considered getting a parking sticker and knowing what even good people like you guys would think of me as a stranger. I've thought of Rich personally, and now I'll think of suede and arctic (who doesn't even want "the lame" around - the fuck? Nobody else called that out?)

Which I can handle, I guess, but I sure as fuck don't want to be regularly confronted like wolvalum is. I will reduce those people to tears and permanently scar them, no doubt, but I have no interest fighting that battle every couple months.

Westside made a point last night about maybe people should be less worried about what shitty people are getting away with and more concerned about how that affects the deserving.

You think the things we say here and off the board don't make a difference, but I'm telling you they do. They've affected me. I've heard a million other disabled people talk about this, based on that they've heard from friends and family. It's complicated. It's not what suede thinks (fatfucks - the vast majority - over here, the truly deserving over there - simple as that, pass out the tests!)

If people here treated this subject with a little more nuance and grace, it won't change the world. Obviously. But it's a start. Maybe it'll help one person in your life make the decision to get what they need, use a fucking cane at the office or whatever. Or you'll just be on the right side of things by understanding the cost of oversimplifcation.

And when you see one particular person out and about, just stop judging - you don't know shit. I don't know shit. Just go on with your day. It costs nothing to be wrong and not properly judge one of the cheaters and fakers. They already know they're pieces of shit, and/or they just don't care.
